Te devuelvo la mirada, 2025

video, sound and audio, 10 min

Filmed and photographed during a research trip in Argentina in 2022, Te devuelvo la mirada, 2025 arises from the attempt to connect with the passing of some family members who used to live in the countryside. Their lives were dedicated to taking care of animals and travelling the land. Before their migration towards urban areas, these practices were shared amongst our family. Horses, to me, are the memory holders of one’s history. A culture, a place, a land embodying our roots, the knowledge of ourselves, of myself. In rehearsing ways of approaching some horses in the area of Catamarca, Argentina, a conversation about nostalgia takes place. Diasporic experiences of loss of culture and relationships through migration affects the past, present and future. Through dystopic imagery, this work processes encountering real and imagined stories, inherited and acquired culture. The action resides in a body that unfolds towards another body in a dry landscape. Both living beings are made unfamiliar, yet meditative, alternating roles between observant and observed. Walking towards a wild horse is an attempt to establish a connection with my ancestry and symbolizes the search for the telling of a story - one that will never be told, but found within me.
