Par une approche multidisciplinaire ancrée dans une sensibilité corporelle, c’est principalement à travers le dessin abstrait et l’art performance que Florencia Sosa Rey articule des questions sur l’histoire socioculturelle que porte son corps. Sosa Rey s’intéresse à la mémoire et l’affect laissés par les personnes et les expériences vécues. Considérant la solidarité et la nostalgie comme ressources réflexives pour se pencher sur l’hybridité identitaire, Florencia prête une attention particulière aux espaces physiques et psychiques habités par la distance dans la transmission de savoirs et des liens interpersonnels.
Son travail a été présenté à la Fonderie Darling, Fondation Phi, centre Plein Sud, Livart, ainsi qu’à Toronto, Sudbury, en Islande, et en Argentine. Sosa Rey est récipiendaire de bourses du Conseil des arts du Canada, du Conseil des arts et des Lettres du Québec, de ARTCH et de LOJIQ.

Florencia Sosa Rey (she/they) is a visual artist based in Tiohtiá:ke/Mooniyang/Montréal, Canada. Through a multidisciplinary approach rooted in embodied awareness, she uses abstract drawing, performance art, and video to address the socio-cultural history carried by the body. Sosa Rey views solidarity and nostalgia as reflexive resources through which to examine hybrid identity, and pays particular attention to the physical and psychic spaces embedded by distance in the transmission of knowledge and interpersonal connections. Through various processes of activation, of personal archives, and cultural elements, Florencia undertakes actions that allow them to learn and integrate certain forms of knowledge that have not been formally acquired. Between here, there, and the other, the artist explores geographical, cultural, and generational shifts as open spaces from which abstract, experimental, and intercultural forms emerge, transcending mere representation.
Florencia has exhibited or performed at the Foreman Art Gallery, Drac, Darling Foundry, the PHI Foundation, Centre d’art actuel Plein Sud, Agrégat, Livart, as well as in Toronto, Sudbury, Iceland, and in Argentina. Sosa Rey has received grants from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, ARTCH, and LOJIQ.
